History & Provenance: Part of a collection that includes ’61 Petrus (WA100), ’61 Haut Brion (WA100), ’61 Chateau Margaux, ’61 Leoville Las Cases, ’55 Chateau Latour (WA94) & 1959 Chateau Mouton (WA100), our Private Collections Manager just secured a fine, rare cellar collection from New York which has a breadth of illustrious wines dating back to the mid-50′s and a couple legendary 1961s, including several  Parker 100 Pointers.

Part of an estate sale, each and every bottle was purchased from Sherry Lehmann NYC back in the mid 60′s. One of the most noted wine appraisers in the world, Maureen Downey (formerly of Morrell & Co. and  Zachy’s Auctions) and her team brokered and were paid a commission on the parcel. Provenance could not be better with one sole owner until the wines were recently transferred to a sibling overseeing the estate. Until last fall, the wines never left the Manhattan warehouse facility. These wines have never been traded before or been re-sold. We are excited to have these rarities in our temperature controlled facility in Sonoma to share with our members!

*Provenance & Condition: Given their authenticity and visual inspection, it is our responsibility to reiterate that a cellar this age always comes with a caveat emptor, so please beware that there are absolutely NO REFUNDS or RETURNS on this fine and rare collection.

Bottle Condition:

Label: Pristine front label and import strip label. No nicks or tears. No discoloration.
Bottle Fill: Upper Shoulder.
Capsule Condition: Minor scrape on back portion of capsule other than that it’s pristine.
Cork Condition: No protrusion.

“Tasted 12 Times With Consistent Notes”

“The 1961 Petrus is consistently a perfect wine. Fully mature, and more evolved than several of its neighbors (i.e., the 1961 Latour a Pomerol), it offers a huge, sweet nose of ginger, mint, exotic spices, and gobs of jammy black fruits. Its extraordinary viscosity, sweetness of fruit, and heady alcohol level, as well as its remarkable extract, make for one of the most sumptuous, hedonistic bottles of wine anybody could ever consume. The color is revealing noticeable amber/rust, and the tannin has melted away. This decadent bottle of Pomerol is at its peak of maturity; drink it over the next 10-15 years. “- Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 100 Points

John Kapon:
The Greatest Petrus Tasting of Them All, 11/14/2012 99 points
(Petrus) Low and behold, the 1961 Petrus. It had been a while since I had had this legendary wine. I will never forget the one I had at Bipins super tasting about ten years ago, where I had four 99-point 1961 Pomerol experiences from Bipins longstanding collection. It was great to see it live up to that reputation yet again. This was a wow nose, deeper and more complex than anything else we had encountered so far. Its fruit was black as midnight, and it got another wow from The Hedonist. It was so deep and complex in the nose, with oil, forest and menthol aromas. The 61 just stayed in my mouth forever. It was so fresh, I could see it lasting another fifty years easily. Rich, thick and incroyable, this was as delicious as it gets, and ultimately most everyones wine of the weekend (99).
